According to an editorial in the Washington Times:
"This was in a meeting with Kuwaiti officials who came to Saudi Arabia. They were asking this Islamic official 'What should we do about the churches?' His statement was, 'There should be no Christian churches on the Arabian peninsula.'"
Nettleton continued:
If any Christian leader asked for mosques to be closed, let alone destroyed, it would lead all of the news stories on MSM.
But somehow last month, Sheik Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, declared it "necessary to destroy all the churches of the region," and very few news outlets have even covered it! The Sheik happens to one of the most important and respected leaders in the Muslim world.According to an editorial in the Washington Times:
It does not just create a religious obligation for those over whom the mufti has direct authority; it is also a signal to others in the Muslim world that destroying churches is not only permitted but mandatory.Todd Nettleton, a spokesman for the Voice of the Martyrs USA, commented:
"This was in a meeting with Kuwaiti officials who came to Saudi Arabia. They were asking this Islamic official 'What should we do about the churches?' His statement was, 'There should be no Christian churches on the Arabian peninsula.'"
Nettleton continued:
"If you have churches in Kuwait, which they do, they should be destroyed. The interesting thing about this is that there are no churches in Saudi Arabia. There are no church buildings that are allowed to exist there. So he clearly wasn't talking only for his own country: he was trying to export this ideology to the surrounding countries."So, there is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calling for the destruction of Israel and now there is the grand mufti, Sheik Abdullah, calling for the destruction of churches in the region. May God help Israel and the Christians in the Middle East.
